Anthropic has agreed to a deal with SpaceXAI for access to Colossus 1, a large AI supercomputer, giving the Claude maker a big boost in computing power.

SpaceXAI, formerly known as xAI and maker of the Grok chatbot, merged with SpaceX earlier this year. The combined company is run by Elon Musk, who also leads Tesla.

Under the deal, Anthropic will have access to more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs and more than 300 megawatts of new capacity within a month.

Anthropic It plans to use this additional power to raise usage limits for Claude subscribers. Claude Code’s five-hour rate caps will double for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plan users.

The company is also removing the peak hour limit reduction on Claude Code Pro and Max accounts. API limits for Opus models will also increase.

Wells Fargo said the deal could raise Anthropic’s revenues. Analysts at the company noted that Anthropic’s annual revenue recently reached $44 billion, up from $30 billion at the end of April and $14 billion in February.

Rapid growth caused power outages

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei apologized this week after users experienced downtime across the company’s forms.

Speaking at the Anthropic Developer Conference, Amodei said revenue increased 80-fold in the first quarter of 2025. He said the company only planned for 10-fold growth.

“This is why we have computing difficulties,” Amodei said. He added that Anthropic is working to provide more capabilities as quickly as possible.

The SpaceXAI deal also opens the door to a potential future project. Anthropic has expressed interest in working with SpaceX to develop multi-gigawatt orbital AI computing capacity.

Broader infrastructural push for Anthropics

The SpaceXAI deal is one of several infrastructure moves Anthropic has made recently.

The company signed a deal with Amazon To secure up to 5 GW of capacity. The first gigawatt is expected to be operational by the end of 2026.

Anthropic also has deals with Google and Broadcom for capacity scheduled to come online in 2027. It has partnered with Microsoft and Nvidia to secure capacity through Azure.

There is also an investment with Fluidstack to continue building AI infrastructure in the US.

The Colossus 1 deal with SpaceXAI is the most pressing of these agreements, with the GPU expected to arrive within the month.
