Freetrade appoints Jenny Zhao as CEO following the acquisition of IG Group


Jenny Zhao announced on LinkedIn that she will take over as CEO of Freetrade. The update was shared today.

The appointment comes after a period of leadership change at Freetrade. Victor Nebihaj announced last February that he would step down from his position as CEO this summer.

previously, IG Group has agreed to acquire Freetrade for £160 million In a deal financed from its current capital. Under the terms of the deal, Freetrade was expected to continue to operate as an independent company. The deal gave IG access to the UK private equity market and expanded its trading and investment offerings.

Former Farewill CEO becomes Free Trade CEO

Zhao’s appointment comes after a nine-month sabbatical and consulting period. During this time, I worked independently and provided selective support to founders of purpose-driven organizations. She also described this period as a deliberate break after helping lead acquisition Farewell with dignity.

Prior to her leave, Zhao spent three years and six months at Farewill in senior leadership roles. She worked briefly as General Manager of Legal Services and Director of the Board of Directors. Prior to that, she served as Chief Operating Officer and Board Director for a longer period, and then Chief Commercial Officer. Farewill operates services covering Wills, Trusts, Funerals and Funeral Plans.

Commenting on her appointment to Freetrade, Zhao said: “I am joining a great team at an exciting stage of growth, with a mission to make trading simpler and more accessible for all types of investors.”

A career in marketing and growth leads to the role of CEO

Zhao moved to Farewill after nearly five years at Bulb. She joined in a marketing
A leadership role and later became head of the marketing department. She then moved into growth leadership roles, including Chief Growth Officer and Acting Chief Growth Officer. She later served as Vice President International for over a year, overseeing operations in several international markets.

Prior to Bulb, she spent four years and eleven months at Manning Gottlieb OMD. Her last position there was client manager, where she worked with clients including Google Nest, Uber, Zopa, and Airbnb.
