Google has integrated two new artificial intelligence (AI) features into its Chrome browser, putting Gemini inside the purchasing journey before shoppers reach a purchasing decision.

The deployment is located on top of a large infrastructure. Chrome runs on nearly 3.5 billion devices and accounts for about 65% of the global browser market, according to StatCounter. Google said Gemini has 750 million monthly active users across its surfaces, which is more than 100-fold in two years.
Skills are located inside the Gemini side panel built into the Chrome desktop. The user types a prompt, saves it, and then activates it on any page by typing a forward slash or plus sign. It runs on the current tab or across multiple tabs of the user’s choice.
Google launched Skills with a curated library that includes shopping, recipes, budgeting, and productivity. Most launch examples are aimed directly at retail: spec comparisons across open tabs, review summaries and gift recommendations scored against budget. Once saved, the workflow takes the user to every product page they open.
AI mode works on the other end. When a user finds a result worth exploring, clicking on it opens the merchant’s page in a side panel within the same session. Gemini reads the page and the broader web simultaneously and asks follow-up questions against both, Google said.

The merchant page is no longer where discovery ends. This is where Gemini starts working.
Google doesn’t stop at the browser. Gemini application now available on macOS as a native desktop experience, accessible from anywhere on the desktop using a keyboard shortcut.
