Freetrade has appointed Nick Robinson as its new CFO, according to a LinkedIn post today (Friday). Robinson wrote that he works with “everyone on the Freetrade and IG Group teams.”
The appointment comes during a period of change in the UK investment platform. last month, Jenny Zhao announced that she has assumed the role of CEO In free trade. The leadership transition began earlier this year when he was co-founder Victor Nebihaj said he would step down from his position as CEO During the summer.
IG deal reshapes free trade strategy
These changes come after IG Group acquired Freetrade. Online trading company It has agreed to buy Freetrade for £160m in a deal funded from existing capital. Under the terms of the deal, Freetrade was expected to continue to operate as an independent company. The acquisition expands IG Group’s presence in the UK private equity market and expands its investment offering.
Commenting on his appointment, Robinson described the current period as a “pivotal moment for free trade.” He added that the company has “the momentum and generational opportunity to transform investment in the UK retail sector”.
Former Mastercard CEO Joins Free Trade
Robinson joins Freetrade after a short stint as CFO at TAB. Prior to this, he spent just over two years as CFO for UK and Africa at Travelex.
At Travelex, he served as a commercial finance partner for the company’s wholesale, outsourcing and retail businesses. His responsibilities included supporting audits, regulatory initiatives, and financial transformation projects.
Earlier in his career, Robinson spent more than four and a half years as CFO at Vocalink, the payments infrastructure company owned by Mastercard. In this role, he provided financial management updates to the Bank of England and worked on regulatory compliance, capital adequacy and long-term investment projects.
Prior to joining Vocalink, Robinson spent six years at Mastercard in various senior finance and product roles. These include the Vice President of Product Development for Cyber and Intelligence Solutions; Vice President of Finance, European Switching Services; and Vice President of Finance for Cyber and Intelligence Solutions.
His work at Mastercard included regulatory separation projects, product development initiatives, investment planning, and commercial strategy for digital identity and cybersecurity companies.
