PHILADELPHIA, April 13, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The following statement was issued by the Kroll Settlement Administration on behalf of the U.S. Department of Justice in connection with the OneCoin Cryptocurrency Exemption Program (the “Exemption Program”).
What is this?
The Department of Justice has begun a petition for remission process to compensate fraud victims who invested in the fraudulent cryptocurrency platform, OneCoin, between 2014 and 2019. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York has filed a number of lawsuits related to OneCoin in the Southern District of New York.
Between 2014 and 2019, Ruja Ignatova and Karl Sebastian Greenwood, co-founders of OneCoin Ltd., and others, organized a large international cryptocurrency investment scheme to defraud investors from around the world. The scheme involved the marketing and sale of fraudulent cryptocurrencies, resulting in significant financial losses to victims around the world. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York has pursued criminal forfeiture of the proceeds of the fraud scheme and the net proceeds of those forfeited assets will be available to compensate victims through the remission process. Victims affected by the OneCoin scheme can file forgiveness petitions to obtain compensation.
Who is eligible for compensation??
Victims who purchased the OneCoin cryptocurrency between 2014 and 2019 and suffered a net investment loss when accounting for any completed withdrawals or collateral redemptions may be eligible for compensation in this regard. However, filing a petition for forgiveness does not guarantee payment. Neither the Department of Justice nor the Waiver Administrator charges you any fees to file a petition or participate in the waiver process. Additionally, you do not need an attorney to file a petition.
What options are available to victims?
- Submit the petition form by June 30, 2026: To participate in this forgiveness program, you must submit a completed petition form. As part of your application, you will be asked to verify the financial losses suffered as a result of the scheme. Documentation supporting all claimed losses must be included with your petition form. Petitions for forgiveness can be submitted by mail or online at www.onecoinremission.com.
- Do nothing: If you do not want to participate in the waiver program, you do not need to submit a petition form. No further action is necessary. If you do not petition for forgiveness, you will not be considered for the forgiveness program.
