“In many cases, attending a World Cup match is a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Paxton said. “If StubHub is a specter exorcising the citizens of Texas from that experience, my office will use every tool available to hold them accountable and help the fans who have been wronged.”
A StubHub spokesperson, reached by PYMNTS, said in an email statement that the company is offering replacement tickets or a full refund.
“StubHub was founded with the goal of making ticket purchasing easier and safer, and for 26 years we’ve helped millions of fans get to the events they love,” the statement read. “The World Cup is no exception, but even one bad experience will be very disappointing for the fans and for us.”
